Thanks for the Julia recommendation! I’ve been immersed in watching The Crown. I watched the first season years ago and fell off. I heard this 6th and last season had an episode on Will and Kate in college and watched. That was enough to pull me back in and I’ve now watched all the rest of the series very out of order :)

Ha! I also just finished The Crown. I thought the Will and Kate episodes were the least interesting of the bunch. But the Margaret-focused episode and the finale both left me in tears. The show had its ups and downs but overall it was poignant to get to watch 40+ years of these characters lives! And, of course, the acting was outstanding.

I think you'll like Julia. The show is very nuanced and intellectual - but still has kind of a warm zaniness.

I was actually so intrigued when I heard the one Will and Kate episode insinuates that it was Kate's mother who kind of orchestrated their meeting! Have you read Spare yet? I tore threw that after watching the show ;)

I have not read Spare yet but you're the second person to mention it to me this week, so I think I need to read it. Plus it *is* a memoir, after all!

I probably read too much People Magazine in the early 2000's, but yes, I do remember gossip news insinuating that Kate's mom was a matchmaker. I really wonder how true that was! I thought it was bold that they included that in the show.

Always appreciate connecting with you via Substack, Susan :)

What a realistic reflection of the past. I certainly relate that we don't usually get to close the door at the sound of a new year's birth. It really is just another day in a very long journey. Thank you for sharing your insights, Allison.

Thank you for your comments, Tricia! "Another day in a very long journey" - so true. I think memoirists feel this especially deeply!
