Hi writers,
Last week I received the summer issue of Under the Gum Tree in the mail and was able to see my essay "Loving the Alien" in print. Seeing an essay of mine in print is a whole new experience for me, and I'm feeling honored to be in community and conversation with other writers and readers in this way.
I began writing this essay about six years years ago, and it changed as I did, through the years, and through many drafts, before settling into the final version you'll find in this literary magazine.
Thanks to Janna Marlies Maron and the whole team at Under the Gum Tree for shepherding this essay into the world with such care. As with everything I write, I hope it finds the people who need to read it.
